Hazzah! If you were getting 'face-plant' withdrawal symptoms due tot he BMX finishing, fear not! We've got mountain biking, and some Canadian bint has already taken a one-way trip to floorsville.

Don't know how long the race is...but the Brit bird is currently in second.

They're talking about 90 minutes of this

Don't think I could manage 10 metres of that climb, and the downhill stuff looks lethal over those rocks.

If you don't pick a good line down those technical sections it's going to get messy. I'd absolutely stack-it on every descent.
If this course is open to the public they'd best have a permanent station for St Johns Ambulance.

Your race can get absolutely mullered if someone in front of you does something stupid.

Odd sport this

I'm no expert but I don't think the loss of a few metres matters over such a long event. The lead commentator is over sensationalising it.
They're riding on the limit of endurance and it'll be survival of the fittest. It's not a lottery like the BMX.

Jesus, race walkers vomiting, collapsing and getting put in wheelchairs at the end of the 50k. It looks horrible.

Also great for him that his bikes were used by the tri-athletes and now in the mountain biking.

I think our girl shot her bolt on that ridiculously fast opening lap. If she medals here I'll be mightily impressed.

Depends where you lose it doesn;t it? If you get stuck on an uphill, it's not just the time you lose, it's the momentum

Looks like this superb Olympics will end on a low:

CLOSING CEREMONY
The closing ceremony is called "Symphony of British Music" and it will celebrate the last 50 years of popular British music. Athletes will come into the stadium and form the mosh pit and 3,500 performers will take part.

George Michael has already confirmed his participation and the Spice Girls and Tinie Tempah are among acts reported to be performing.

The Olympic closing ceremony will be a fun tribute to British music, London 2012 chairman Lord Coe said.
Describing it as an "after-show party" with lots of headline talent, Lord Coe said: "It's not anything desperately profound. It's not the opening ceremony but I think it will be great. It's basically a tribute to British music over the last few decades. It's fun."
Artistic director Kim Gavin has already said it will be "an elegant mash-up of British music" including anything from Adele to Elgar.

(Helen William Saturday 11 August 2012, the Independent)

Please God not Paul McCartney again.

Again I think it's really averaged out over such a long race and you can see how quickly they get strung out and with the 80% rule in operation no one's going to get lapped and clog up the single track or tight corners.

Bresset's having a sensational race so far. I can't see anyone catching her - lets hope she doesn't get a mechanical.

When you see Olympians doing your own sport it really brings it home to you just how exceptional they are. I'd bury myself over a single lap on the granny ring.

This rhythmic gymnastics is quite entertaining. The azerbaijan girl is doing a routine with a ball to the stripping song from The Full Monty.

I think it's fair to say she wasn't aware of its cinematic use.

The heavy metal soundtracked hoop routine remains my favourite.

The closing ceremony is going to be hilarious. By all accounts all the athletes always get langered at it, drinking before and then during it. Judging by the lartying that's being going on in the village, it's going to be a massive piss up

And they deserve it, all the athletes have been brilliant and have help make it one to remember.

Ainslie's gold in the Finn class at these Olympics was his fourth gold at four successive Games, and the fifth consecutive Olympics where he has secured a medal. He is the most-decorated sailor in Olympic history.

The 35-year-old said: "It's a really proud moment for me and for sailing to have such an involvement at the end of what's been such an amazing Games for the whole country."

It's fair to say that the convicts have dominated the sailing which is understandable given how poor they swim.

Indeed. however Britain has had an Olympics were literally they have had lots of bad luck (not taking credita way from them) and still got medals in half the races. I think GB will will return strong in Rio.
