Sounds a very similar situation to what the gf experienced.
She cut those twats out and had nothing more to do with any of them.
She went off and made some new friends (happened last year of school for her) but she is obviously not comfortable around that area anymore

Go to the police. It's not funny, she shouldn't have to be looking over her shoulder in case they mean it and it might just knock some sense into them. I assume they don't mean it and I assume she knows that but she'll still worry about it and that's cruel.

If you don't ask them how they'd react if someone said they were going to rape their mothers, sister, girlfriend etc?

Don't get yourself into trouble but perhaps have a manly word with them and explain how upset and vulnerable she feels. If they don't care go to the police, at least you've then given them the option to put things right. I can't tell you how scary just the thought of being raped is, bottom line is men are so much stronger we'd stand little chance of stopping it. Thankfully most men wouldn't, and you live with the assumption that of course it will never happen to you, but once the trust is gone it's devastating. A friend was raped and the aftermath was worse than the actual rape, she can't trust men and you make up 50% of the population, she's always nervous, gone from being a strong person to one that has panic attacks and left the UK to go home to Oz, but even just going outside she's always worried. So threatening rape is cruel, I'm walking alone in a quiet area and there's a man walking behind me, he will not have a clue he's just going about his day probably thinking of dinner, but I'm aware of every step, how close he is etc etc. Busy area I'm most likely no more aware of him than he is of me.

This is going to sound really weird, but I'm always paranoid that if I'm walking on the street behind a woman or a man or whatever, that they have it in their heads that I'm going to rape/mug/murder them.

Bit weird and I'm always thinking about it, you can't exactly shout after them, "Don't worry, I'm actually nice, I won't rape you!", I suppose there's nothing you can really do about it, but it kind of freaks me out.

I feel really bad for women and others who have to think like that though, mustn't be great to be constantly worried, although I get why you have to be.

They might be young (I'm guessing around 20?) but what type of person threatens to rape someone else?
They fully deserve what they get if their that age. Your old enough to have some compassion and think through your actions.

When it gets dark early I take different routes home, along the main road rather than the back streets and the guinel (spelling) between houses.

Can you cross the road if it's just you and her, don't know what else to suggest. It's no one but the raping bastards fault you're both in that situation. If there's other people about it's fine, you feel safer.
