Crap title, nevermind.

Almost 1 in 3 of his own Party say NO to Independence and his audience with the Pope has been refused.

I wonder what kind of trap this is?

Also, if Scotland do leave the Union I'm going to suggest we rename the country: Greater Britain.

Who's with me? :)

Pretty edgy stats if your pro independence. Long way to go yet though :)

So, everyone, what do we think of "Greater Britain"?

I think it works well.

Historically it has been near enough one out of three Sweaties for a long time.

Oh no not at all. I mean, 1 third of his own party? Does he mean MSPs? Or is he referring to voters? Or members? Last I checked they were 3 different things and I just want to be sure for peace of mind.

It's funny in all this how Darling and his cronies are presenting this as a setback for the SNP, when really the pro independence vote has been hovering between 25 and 40% for quite a long time now, with as much as 30% undecided - grounds for optimisim in the SNP. Christ they release the stats the day before Eck launches the campaign. As a spoiling tactic it's worked, but I find the no campaign so far to have been full of negativity and little positivity. They still have time though so lets see how their campaign kicks off.

Just for the record as I know Jerpy likes to paint me as an Ultra-British Nationalist.

I will be sad if the people of Scotland democratically decide they want to leave the union but will support their choice 100%

IIRC there was a poll that showed that the majority of people in Niron didn't want to be part of a United Ireland. I got attacked by several posters who told me that the poll was incorrect. I don't think our Caledonian cousins are quite as vitriolic on this particular issue, but it won't be long before this thread has been hijacked by the Irish.

Actually not a bad idea. Those unionists need some wit, instead of being all po-faced and serious all the time :)

/Pedant mode. How can a 'No' campaign be anything but negative? Perhaps they should simply endorse everything the Independence campaign want to deliver and put a price tag alongside? That ought to work

Fair point. Maybe they could focus on what's good about the Union?

National anthem's a bit of a dirge though. Perhaps we should have 'British Grenadiers'? Although I think too many people know the words of the rugby version better than the original.

The majority of people in Ireland/southern Ireland don't want a united Ireland either so I find that hard to believe.

I'm more worried that AS sought a meeting with the Pope. Perhaps he was trying to persuade him to relocate the HQ to Scotland. Declined due to AS's support for gay marriage apparently. So at least something good has come out of it for AS.

Sounds unlikely. As usual, the only rational explanation is an English plot.
