Ali will start - he's played with Whitelock before, and we don't want to kill young Retallick...

Dagg will start as well - although I do agree he's been fairly shit since the WC semi-final. Hopefully playing in a functioning backline with a centre that can pass and tackle will help him out...

Fixed.

i'm more concerned about his inconsistent kicking game and defence

dagg is talented, brilliant at times, but alot of the time he's style over substance - makes alot of basic mistakes

no doubt he's the most talented of the 2, but if we had 2 other world class wings i would move jane to fb -and leave him there long term

Yeah...

Robbie still looks every bit a winger playing centre.

He'll murder the Blues this weekend.

I don't think we are going to see Nonu involved in the Irish tests, the guy has been playing non stop rugby for what... 18 months? He needs a break. Besides SBW is plying his best rugby and has forced his way in.

Same with Piri, we won't see him either, come on down A Smith!

I won't be surprised to see Ali in the starting side but I hope Retallic gets a starting berth.

Savea looks like he will get a start given Kahui's injury, no problems there.

I would also like to see Cruden start but that is looking unlikely but we are not loosing a lot with Carter there.

Vito gets the 6 jersey for mine, he offers a lot more power with his running game and looked the part when he got the job last year in the WC, he should be rewarded for that. Thomson is a good player but he has also had plenty of chances and not really been impressive at all, especially against powerful backrows like the one the Irish will probably have.

FWIW

Woodcock
Hore
O'Franks
Whitelock
Williams
Vito
McCaw
Read

Ellis
Carter
Jane
SBW
C Smith
Savea
Dagg

B Franks
St Kev
Retallic
Thomson
A Smith
Cruden
B Smith

Dagg made countless errors for the 'saders last year as well, but he made up for it with some sublime skillz. Now, he's just fucking up a lot without the skill...

I think his defence has been fine, though. Plus, he has real gas - something that Jane does not possess.

Jane much prefers the wing these days as well.

even in that semi, where his brilliance helped us win the game, he made alot of basic errors - one gained the ABs 3 pts -pure luck on the day

all i know is that in a tight game, and we will be getting even more of these with the inevitable decline of carter and mccaw, i dont trust dagg to do the right thing atm

he hasnt lost us a game as yet, but unless he's more consistent we might end up with a donald /HK bled. situation

i want him there for his x factor, but he needs to pick up on other aspects of his game, or produce brilliance on a more regular basis

if savea turns out to be a genuine world class winger, we wont need daggs speed from the back 3 - a kahui /savea /jane back 3 would be potent and well rounded

Yeah, he's that good he can pull brilliance out of his arse at any time eh?
I just want him to be solid in everything he does, a bit of brilliance every now and then will be fine.

Kahui may be Gone Burger for good...

Who knows?

I do worry about Dagg's errors as well, though. According to Fox Rugby, he's made 10 errors this season. In comparison, Smith has only made 2, and Taylor is sitting on 5.

He deserves first crack, but I hope to see Smith, and Taylor continuing to put pressure on him.

it was a tongue in cheek comment

everyone wants him to be more solid - but he's not showing it - hence the conversation

fair enough MB, although shag might (and should) drop him out of the 22 if his form continues and smith continues to impress

how do they define errors?, his kicking game and decision making has been all over the place

Thanks Weka. Interesting that GH has given the thumbs up the way he has. Start to prepare for the future now...

Just basic errors - knock ons, forward passes, kicks out on the full - shit like that.

He's been very sloppy.

Option taking across the board has been poor from the 'saders backline. They don't look a well coached unit.
