Apposite, you say the Iphone camera is better than the S2? What do they have in the Iphone now cause the S2 is 8 Mega pixels with a very good flash.

That's shit CM11. Is it skinned in any way or plain ICS? Which version? Not used it on a tablet yet but my phone is definitely running smoother and faster than it was on Gingerbread.

On the camera I'm talking about the quality of the shots rather than the resolution of the sensor. I have an 8MP camera in my phone too but it's not half as good as the camera in the iPhone 4S IMO.

My battery seems to have taken a bit of a hit since ICS. But as I said previously I'm finding there's fuck all different. What is the big deal with it?

Instagram has been ported to Android devices (2.2 or higher).

It's a great little application that I used previously on my Apple iTouch for sharing photos with family/friends. Transforms the most mundane snap to look like an Andy Warhol still-life
No tablet support or HTC One X support yet though ...

Anyone with a Xoom? I'm putting the US version of ICS on mine, some really simple instructions on how to do it here:

http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/ics-gen ... ers-3.html

It takes all of 5 minutes to get it switched over to a US device running 3.0.1, it will then go and update all the way to ICS.

Had a desire s, Shit. Especially on this sites forum. Jumps around all over the Fucking place and can't select a point to type from. An app would be nice.

Is the One the new HTC flagship hand set? I know little about it.

Sorry, only saw your reply now. Plain ICS, I presume. It was a firmware update via Asus. I'm either used to it now or it wasn't as bad as I thought because I haven't noticed as many issues/crashes.

Fair enough re. the cameras. Is that a big step up from previous Iphones because I didn't think they took great pictures in the past?

Yep - HTC have released 3 pones which is their Android range for this year. Supposedly there will be no more.

One V - Bottom of the range
One S - mid range, 4.3" screen, dual core
One X - top of the range, 4.7" HD screen, quad-core (except the American LTE version which is dual core)

All run ICS and Sense 4. Had a look at the X the other day and the screen especially was incredible

I think I'll try something new this time. My HTC came with a load of crap such as 'win cash', 'tboxx', amazon mp3 app for purchasing music. All of which they set up so you couldn't delete.

They come with a lot of stuff pre-loaded, but operators have a bad habit of loading a lot of other junk. One really great feature though is the 2 year 25Gb Dropbox account included FOC

I got a cloud account with my HP touchpad box.net. However maximum file size was something like 100mb. I have some FLAC music files larger than that, but they did give me 50gb free.

3 added a load of crap to the phone as well. Given it didn't have that much storage space you'd think they'd think first. Apparently 3 got a load of complaints and they're making the software smaller but I've not bothered installing any updates as last time it didn't replace the old one so I lost even more room until I deleted the new version.

I'm with 3 (Ireland obviously) and my GSII also came loaded with shite. Was with Vodafone previously, that was also loaded with shite. Since I've done my Xoom I may attempt to put a custom ROM on or whatever the fuck the tech speak for it is.

My GSII is 3 Ireland as well. You on the 40 quid a month tariff?

The one preloaded thing which does my head is the Goldenpages app. It's constantly trying to update but it wants access to loads of personal info on the phone.
I wouldn't download an app if it was asking for that much. Pretty annoyed that they'd put that on the phone with no option to get rid of it.

It's a minor gripe though. Just kill the update notification every week or so and can forget about it.

Have an upgrade coming in around 4 weeks. Leaning towards the One-X but haven't entirely ruled out the GSIII.

Anyway, quick Android question. Music apps (just for playing MP3's off the phone). I have one (on a HTC Sensation XL) that's alright at best, not sure if it's the default Android one or a HTC replacement. I'd like to try a few others but the one I have integrates with the lock screen so I can skip track without unlocking the phone which is very handy. Anyone know of nice downloadable music apps that do the same?

Doubletwist is probably the biggest music app.

You can also set up an iTunes like thing on your computer and have wireless syncing.

I got myself a Galaxy S plus about 2 weeks back.. I am loving it. I have found that some games ( actually just one of them ) while not running eat your battery.

The Galaxy S plus is a nippy little device for a fraction of the price od a GS2 which I would not use the full power of anyway.

I'm not explaining myself well. I literally mean the music player on the phone, it's just a simple app to play music off the phone memory, shuffle and sort tracks, make playlists, graphicEQ etc.

It is that, you have to pay more for the EQ, but it is generally considered the best. Also has controls in the lock screen.

I have a Xoom, but had sort of parked any thoughts of messing with it. It does what I need. I'm notoriously bad for tweaking stuff and ending up with one step forward, two steps back. What ooomph does ICS give you on the Xoom Dan?

Install juice defender. Advise I saw in this thread.

I installed the free (basic) version and my battery life almost doubled on my S2.

I've heard good things about "Cubed"

I've installed it, but haven't gotten around to actually testing it (don't have music on my phone)

I've had my One X for a couple of weeks now. Took a while to get used to the size but I dont notice it at all now.

It's a very good smart phone. The quad core  processor ensures smooth multi tasking. The 1080p video recording is suprisingly good too.

It's actually a 5 core proc! There's a little wimpy one that handles idle processes and shuts down all 4 main cores when on standby.

How you finding battery? That's the draw of the Samsung, 2100mAh vs 1800 for the One-X but it looks like the screen on the One-X is waaay better, the screen on the GSIII is pentile based :((

What a let down this phone is.

Ugly hardware and stupid gimmicky software additions. You'd think with all the Android devices out there that someone would come out with a nice design running stock Android.

Had the HTC One-S since launch, great phone....gobsmackingly thin (sub 8mm) and glorious cold metal build. The Qualcomm S4 dual core chip is more efficient than any of the new quad-core releases and I get a full days smartphone use without having to hunt around for a charger in the afternoon like I had to with my previous Nexus. Not too big either, highly recommended.

It probably has a slightly better runtime than my old desire. Maybe a day and a half without charge if I don’t go crazy browsing.

Just seen the SIII and I'm not that impressed tbh. It doesn't look that great and as you say, the One x has the better display.

Download gameboid from Slideme.org, that's a decent gameboy emulator.

Need to download the ROM for each individual game. The ROMs are usually gamename.gba, the .gba filetype is for gameboy advance games.
You also need to download a file, gba bios, otherwise the emulator, gameboid, doesn't recognise the ROM files. drag the bios file into a folder where you'll be storing the game ROMs, then download the games to the same location.
The first time you run it you need to run the gba bios so that it can deal with the ROMs, thereafter it recognises them.

Pretty much every conceivable gameboy game is available. Don't think there are any decent DS emulators as the two screens is hard to translate to the one screen phone. I only started with a pokemon game as I used to play them a bit when I was about 12. There are millions of new ones since then. Any of the Mario games etc work great too.
