Leinster coaching staff.
Head & Defence Coach - Josef Schmidt - New Zealand
Forwards Coach - Jono Gibbes - New Zealand
Scrum Coach - Greg Feek - New Zealand

Notice the pattern?

I'll certainly be supporting Leinster now that he is playing for them. How many players have won a Super Rugby title, NZ provincial title, Ranfurly Shield, Bledisloe Cup, 3N, Rugby World Cup and European Club Championship.

Doug Howlett except for the World Cup I would imagine.

Ps Serious signing for Leinster, even if it is just for a few games. His professionalism is remarkable and should hopefully rub off on all players involved.

Is that not the Rugby League trophy? Doubt Howlett has won that comp if it is.

It's good business as well. You can already see that a lot of kiwi's will be tuning in to see how he gets on. Good brand exposure.

We are the Fijian Ninjas of Northern Hemisphere back play.

The term Leinstertainment comes from our addiction to running rugby and our obsession with counter attacking from inside our own 22.
We laugh in the face of grind it out conservatism and shit try bonus points for breakfast.

If our open play was a chick it would be a young angelina Jolie without the fuddy duddy conservative inhibitions.

Disgusted if its true...

  :x :x :x :x

Quote:
LEINSTER are close to confirming Brad Thorn as a short-term signing, but Donnacha Ryan has emerged as potential long-term solution to their second-row problem.
With Leo Cullen out of action due to an Achilles problem and Steven Sykes, who was signed on a three-year deal, returning to South Africa, emulating Ed O'Donoghue's early departure at the start of the season, second-row has become a major issue for the province.
Ryan (28) has been starting for Munster this season but has been unable to dislodge Donncha O'Callaghan from the Ireland team and, with Paul O'Connell and O'Callaghan both recently signing contract extensions, sources say the Nenagh man is interested in switching provinces.

stalwart

With speculation that Munster stalwart Mick O'Driscoll will retire at the end of the season and that Billy Holland's contract may be not be renewed, it would leave Munster short on second-row cover beyond Ian Nagle.

Ryan has been in tremendous form this season and would be a significant capture for Leinster, particularly as their captain Cullen is now 34.

Devin Toner, Damien Browne and the promising Mark Flanagan are three specialist locks available, while flanker Kevin McLaughlin has filled in there when required, but Leinster desperately need quality and experience in the position, and Ryan fits the bill.

In the short term, New Zealand World Cup winner Thorn is the target and Leinster are hopeful of securing his switch from Japan.

Assistant coach Richie Murphy stated yesterday: "We are close to finalising a deal, things are looking good."

And McLaughlin is excited by the prospect of having a player of Thorn's ability in the squad.

"It's really exciting. Obviously we've a bit of a crisis at second-row this season, especially with Leo gone to surgery. I've had to go in there a few times, which I'm more than happy to do," he said.

"But to get a specialist second-row in who has just won the World Cup, who has done everything there really is to do in rugby, is just a huge lift for the squad."

Meanwhile, with Tomas O'Leary still in negotiations with Top 14 clubs regarding a move to France, Munster are poised to re-sign scrum-half Duncan Williams for two more years.

While a proposed switch to Perpignan has fallen through, O'Leary is said to have offers on the table from Stade Francais and Racing Metro, although he could still opt to remain in his native province.

Reddser, living up to your rep again!

It's something that should have been done years ago to be fair. I mean he's 28 as it is and has spent so long languishing on the bench.

The deal that's being negotiated is a straight swap with Kearney, SOB and Ross coming to Munster so don't sweat it, reddser.

Disappointing to see a lack of confidence in academy or age-group players to step up and show their long-term credentials, instead spending big money to secure a 36-year-old Kiwi for a few months.

Well you have to question where his priorities lie. All that potential and content to wait seven or eight years to get HEC rugby, knowing he'd be able to get it at most other HEC teams in Europe.

The still has a good few years left, but if he's moving, he'd want it to be this season.
He's finally first choice at Munster anyway, so I doubt he'll move.

I agree..its a shame to see players wasteing their best years on the bench for their chance to get a decent run..what is pissing me off in this case is that Ryan is now the first choice shead of DOC..Was really looking forward to haveing a good 2nd row into the future with the likes of himself and Nagle..A good pairing to base the pack around :uhoh: ..Hope thsi is the usual contract renewal rumour bs

All joking aside as an import for a few months I think he will be extremely beneficial for Flanagan and Toner and the academy locks.

we have 4 Irish Locks on full contract at Leinster

Cullen and Browne who are older and both injured and Toner and Flanagan.

Flanagan has only 4 caps and is only 22.

Ben marshall and Ciaran Ruddock are academy players and both only 21

He's replacing sykes who has gone back to South Africa.

I think it's an entirely reasonable signing and better for the young locks than a more long term NIQ

I very much doubt Ryan would leave after hanging around for so long and now being first choice. Maybe Muse has the inside track!

We'll take Nagle thanks very much.

Reddser, living up to your rep again!

It's something that should have been done years ago to be fair. I mean he's 28 as it is and has spent so long languishing on the bench.

I very much doubt Ryan would leave after hanging around for so long and now being first choice. Maybe Muse has the inside track!

We'll take Nagle thanks very much.

With MOD retiring I doubt that will happen. Dave Foley might be an option.
