Background..

In the UK if you are unemployed the perception is you are lazy and stupid.
Whether you are or you ar not.
Leads to rediculous situations such as an unemployed person could post his references right now (eight people attesting to the fact that he is a excellent worker) and still get accused of laziness and being on the scrounge - by complete and utter strangers.

Because all the unemployed are Lazy and stupid we are at the stage where 92% of all new jobs go to foriegners.
You will not get a job interview if you are longterm unemployed..

The perception that all the unemployed are lazy etc (see newsnight last night) is created and encouraged by various highly motivated parties and individuals for various highly self interested reasons..

a) Employers.
They don't want to employ british workers. When the minimum wage is a fortune to a Polish person and they can get cheap ass hard working happy labour. They have also signed contracts with recruitment agencies - to import it and get it cheaper the more they employ.

They need to justify this. Creating the perception that the british unemployed are all lazy and useless suits them down to the ground.

b) Foriegn workers themselves. They seem to encourage this perception whenever possible. (See Newsnight Last Night).
And why wouldn't they?
They are hardly ever going to be defenders of the British unemployed are they ffs - they want to get their mates over here too..yet they and their perceptions are listenned too like they are important and completely impartial.

c)Hard done by Taxpayers..Taxpayer alliance types.
They don't really give a fuck how the Unemployed are percieved..(well not strictly true..they want and enjoy cheap labour) they just don't want to fucking pay for the social and economic consequences and chaos of this british mass unemploynent and for peoples benefits.
They would put dolies in jail if they could (and it wasn't vastly more expensive to do so). Putting us all into two groups as strivers and skivers is their goal. Tax cuts for the strivers!!

That is the background - these are the basic perceptions.
I could add a million more.
The Unemployed are seen as whingers if they complain.
Labelled Jealous, Envious.
That they want to blame the world for the problems.
Hell you can stick any label you like to them. They are fucked regardless.

But the main one (that gets 92% of all new jobs given to foriegners) is that they are lazy and stupid.
If you are longterm British unemployed you frankly may as well put a gun to your head and blow your head off.
Actually some here will encourage you to just that.

This is the background into which the conservatives want to put 500 thousand disabled people and 500 thousand public sector workers (on top of the many millions of jobless).
They want to kick people off disability - where they are effectively called fakers..and then pretend to expect British Employers to employ them. The people on the one hand who want to smear and fuck over every last unemployed person for a taxcut..want to add more people to the unemployed ranks ( so they can smear and fuck them over)..for a taxcut.

I agree a tiny bit. For many people it's not as easy as just getting a job. Although for many it is.

And yes, the labelling of all unemployed people as lazy is as inaccurate as it is lazy

Trouble is it doesn't help your argument when you won't work because of some paper thin, wishy washy, first world, manufactured medical bullshit reason

This is what I don't get about the Refry character. I used to think he was some right winger taking the piss

Hmmm playing the foreigners get the impression bs card is not cool REFRY.
Why the fuck do you care so much what the right wingers in the press and on here think. Surely you realise that sections of the posters on here are Tory boys at play. Vicious nasty and detached from reality.

Seems to me foreigners are more likely to be prepared to share rooms and work for minimum wage than a lot of locals. I've seen it with Aussies coming over here and doing jobs locals won't do and Brits going over to Aus and doing jobs locals won't do. The safety net can get to comfortable for some

This is clearly REFRY's coping mechanism. It's not his fault he's unemployed, it's not his fault he can't get an interview. You must have someone to blame and therefore it must be the Tory government. Trouble is REFRY, you were unemployed for years under NuLabour. Whose fault was it then? Or did you have hope at that stage?

I do sympathise with people who are unemployed. Particularly if you are in your mid to late 50s when the perception is that it is impossible to find another job. But my level of sympathy goes down when I hear of people who place unrealistic restrictions on where they will work or what they will do. If I needed to, I would take a job stacking shelves at the local supermarket rather than sit around doing nothing. I'd get a job as a courier. Anything. I'd live away from home if I had to. To keep my self respect, I'd sacrifice my pride. The fact that I'm a highly qualified and hugely experienced senior manager represents my pride. To keep my family housed and fed represents my self respect.

Is this the same refry who was given at least two concrete job offers through the bored but found a long list of excuses why he couldn't take them ?

Good post sir.
Tbh if people are not prepared to work then the lazy bastards should be penalised. It is wrong that they are not contributing to society on a whim. It is just as bad as the tax avoiding Rich detritus that got the tax break from Dave and Gideon.

Some of the posters on here from the West Country and Wales believe they should have jobs on their own doorsteps rather than actually travel within the UK or abroad to find work.

They then proceed to attack the people that have made the effort to find work elsewhere that have bought second homes in those areas.

I kid you not.

I do have sympathy for the unemployed and some of the perceptions in the right wing press, and by IDS type politicians. However, there are clearly also lazy cunts out there who want a job to just fall in their laps. I was unemployed a few years back, I'd had what I considered a decent job and was shocked when the company folded. I never signed on for unemployment benefit, I just went out and looked for ANY job I could do. I found gardening, cleaning, decorating jobs just by knocking on people's front doors, and they paid the bills. It wasn't great money, but it was enough to live on, and a bit of spare cash, until I found another full time job. I know times are tight, but there is definitely still work out there if you are prepared to get your hands dirty, and "get on you bike".

I would imagine we've all had to to that in our lives, I certainly have.

I did say some of the Welsh posters, not all. ;)

Harsh on IDS Clanger, him and Frank Field have done huge amounts of work for the issue of long term Unemployment. People may not believe the retoric that the support network of benefits have created a lot of the problems but they should spend the time these guys have looking at the issue on the ground before commenting.

Silly comment. They are both taking the opposite view that personal responsability is something for people to strive for. There are now generations of familys that have no idea of the normal pattern of working life. Help is needed and if politicians can't help who can? of course they are out of touch but have made huge efforts trying to understand the issue.

IDS' problem is that he has no tact, his comments that 'the disabled sit around all day drinking coffee' didn't surprise me in the least, wanker.

Whinge, moan, cry, Tories, blah, blah, blah, smearing the fuck, disabled, whinge, blah.

Without reading C69's multi would that suffice as a concise summary?

the problem in this debate (and there is one away from refry's insane ramblings) is that too many people are too quick to consider themselves being branded as lazy or workshy just because they happen to be unemployed. that many unemployed people aren't, most hopefully, doesn't change the fact that some are and bringing in measures to try to tackle these people is needed. if the price for getting the benefits system under better control so that its not so easy for people to take the piss or outright defraud it is the hurt feelings of unemployed people who do genuinely seek and want work then I think I can live with that.

Your hero from Birkenhead would be proud of you. The faux Tory evwn refused to hand over £7000 that Clegg asked him to. Terry Fields on the other hand was a proud Merseyside politician.

I'd certainly agree that the working class are being demonised to an extent so people do not see the more important targets. Cream socialists like myself, should be first up against the wall to be honest.

To the OP - what you've described is the Daily Mail, followed by a brief bit of ill-informed comment regarding the change in the policy towards disability benefits.

And specifically virtually nothing to do with Conservative Economic and Social policy. Congratulations

Listen, muppet, I knew Terry Fields well and he had little time for over pampered, over fed middle class hospital porters.

IDS and Frank Fields are two of the few politicians who actually give a shit about anything other than hacking (in the political sense) their way into positions of authority and prominence. Don't always agree with their conclusions but you can always be sure they are motivated by a genuine desire to help and carefully though out.

Refry you have zero excuses, yes thats right absolutely fucking zero, for not having a job by now. You are a product of the Great British social experiment under Nu Labour that went horribly wrong, and now your sense of entitlement outweighs and contains any urge you may once have of going back to work.

The wife's family are virtually all from Ebbw Vale, and nearly to a person were all working at the steel works when it was closed. None of them have moved from the area, none of them cried , bitched and moaned, all of them went out and either retrained or looked for other work.

I myself was working at St.Athan when your champion government, Nu Labour, decided to close the place down just two years after spending over £100 million on a new hangar there for the RAF's aircraft. That proud white elephant now stands empty , a state of the art facility left to rot after 3 years of diabolical decision making, some of the worst I can ever remember by a sitting government. Over 2000 highly trained workers laid off in a two year period , devastating the local economy and forcing us to leave the area in search of work.

About 30 of us came to Australia to find a new life , jobs and outlook . We are all about to go through the redundancy process yet again , 7 years down the line. You know what though Refry? I can guarantee you I'll be out looking for work again very soon, such is life, will I cry , bitch and moan about it ? Fuck no!

You are no better than any "foreigner"you seem to depise so much for taking jobs , jobs that YOU and many others back over there deem below you.

Get a fucking grip on reality you fucking clown.

Cunts like YOU are THE PROBLEM over there :x , not any foreigner working for a living.

/rant over

Make it suitably tragic though, you know something like cycling to work (1st time in years etc) and knocked off his chopper by a Tory in a Bentley.
