The Highlanders lineout is complete fucking garbage. And some were pleading for Rutledge to be included in the AB squad.

36 in all this year. Only the Canes have scored more.

Well unless they've decided to play totally different tactics to usual in this game, they are most certainly not kicking for territroy (which I would consider to be pinging touchlines in an effort to disrupt the subsequent lineout). Almost all the Bulls kicks have been in field and up'n'unders.

And with regards to tries, the tactic being employed by the Blues often does yield a lot of tries. My point however is that the tactics is fundamentally based on the principle of only playing 'in the right areas', i.e, in the final 1/3 of the field. So, if you are not in the final 1/3 of the field, then you kick into the final third of the field, and back your defence/chasing game to reclaim the ball at some indeterminate point later in the play...sounds great on paper, is great in practice when done right, but is the most eye-wateringly boring spectacle from a neutrals point of view as it means one team has come with the defined tactic to not play the ball unless they are in the right areas, and if they are good, but not quite good enough to the make the tactic stick, you get the scenario which we have all just witnessed here, wherebyu they are able to stop the other team from also playing, but not fully able to capitalise themsevles.

Basically, 40 (hopefully not 80 minutes) of stalemate ensues

P.S. I have noticed that the Bulls have adopted the 'daisy-chain' ruck technique, which in my opinion makes them a pack of cunts...however that has nothing to do with my above point.

Yep, the Bulls are unfairly pilloried for ultra-conservatism. It's probably stems from Morne Steyn, the least inspiring rugby player in the known universe.

Good to see the Bulls defend a high speed chicken without a head style game. There was talk about them being shit on defence but Ludeke did his job during the week. I can see a bounce or two going Basson's way for 14 points and three more penalties for Steyn. Highlanders throwing the kitchen sink at this one could be close.

I agree with the commentator who said the Highlanders have to chip over the wall or grubber thru it. The Bulls set a very organised defensive wall. Have to put uncertainty in their minds by mixing it up.

That is also kicking for territory, so fuck off with your fancy essay. ;)

Would have said so if I meant kicking for touch but do concede the bombs aren't part of that. The 'Landers aren't fielding those too well, though, either...

Anyone's game from here.

With the program? We've been 'enjoying' the delights of the daisy-chain rucks since last September up North (I thank all the Gods, that no one had managed to think about this prior to the World Cup).

It's a Saracens invention (which is maybe why a Saffa team has been the first to adopt it down South), and it's total bollocks. Basically reduces the game to a ridiculous stop start affair, as it is only used as precursor to an up'n'under...so you get entire sections of games where it's tackle, 30 seconds to a minute daisy chain ruck, kick, drop ball, scrum, tackle, 30 seconds to a minute daisy chain ruck, drop ball, scrum, tackle, 30 seconds to a minute daisy chain ruck, etc etc.

Makes you want to claw your own eyes out!

Is this Crosswell fucker a Bulls plant or what. I've seen him balls up at least three backline movements now.

Should have been a penalty of course.

And now the Highlanders get a penalty, although that should have been for the Bulls as the highlander tackler certainly did not release.
