But no..................somebody with a $200 point&shoot gets this photo opp

You bemoaning the loss of photo revenue or having to keep the wife?
Little bit of both really. I have the "bait" (wife) - probably been married longer than this guy. Plus I have semi-decent photography equipment - also probably better than this guy's.
Have a look - the people with really shitty photographic equipment, and no photography experience, are the ones blessed with the best photographic opportunities in Africa. The Tale of the Kruger Park (lions vs buffalo vs croc) was shot on an el-cheapo video camera.
Hell even my own 15-minutes-of-fame photo (croc vs elephant) I got when I was just starting doing photography. Do you know how many hours I've sat at hides, with a 200-400 f/4 lens, once even with a 500 f/4 lens...camera that can do 8 frames per second....5 years of photography experience....and nada, nothing fuck-all. Apart from two zebras coming to drink water. Or a Waterbuck.
Back in 2008 I barely sat down with my old camera (Nikon D80) with the REALLY shitty Sigma 70-300 lens at the hide in the Kruger Park and next thing I got the photo of a lifetime.
And NEVER had a leopard sighting. Or cheetah. Lions yes, but not one single good photo opp. Yet there are people who have photographed leopards with a friggin' cellphone.
