Am I right in saying that he played as emergency centre for Munster on occasions?

Did he start there or get shuffled there?

He started on the wing in a Celtic cup final.

Before I moved to these shores I remember seeing him set up/score a cracker in the 6N nations at the Millenium - showed the Welsh wing the outside iirc.

He was very fast in his early career. Not too slow by the end either but outside back quick back then.

You do know what the Celtic Cup final is?

I can only assume you're trolling, you can't possibly be this ignorant.

Have a memory of a game in Twickenham, think it was when Horgan got the late try, he got the ball inbetween our 10 and 22 and proceeded to rampage through Sahw, Corry and others and made about 60 yards.

Shite tackling but a typical typw of try, he must have been the most impossible bastard to wrap your arms around.
Remember the Kiwis having all sorts of problems with him in 08 in New Zealand.

One of my abiding memories of him was in a game which would have been relatively early in both their international careers, Irl v Wales, and listeing to the BBC commentary rave on, and on, and on some more about Shane Williams who wasso quick you'd miss him if you blinked etc.

At some stage in the game Williams gets the ball in broken field. Wally shows him the outside. Williams steps and turn on the afterburners. Staggering acceleration.

Sadly hauled back, in and buried very deep within ten metres. Wally ambling off back into position to babysit our outhalf.

Oh how I giggled.

Brought my young fella to his first intl when we were playing Scotland to win a first triple crown in centuries,we were struggling to shake the fuckers off until,POW,Wally runs over the line with 40 of the cunts trying to take him down.

Legend.

did the Wally ever recv such accolades .. from people who know about the game .. rather than juvenile sycophants?

Geoghegan? And you want us to get some perspective?

Wallace is a 72 times capped two time Lion who's been key to Munster and Ireland's success for a good part of the last 12 years. I think you should leave it up to us to decide whether we think he's a legend or not.

Winterbottom was a 7 ...

Ah well that's just shite. It was a horrible injury, was very surprised he came back at all from it. I was many beers in by the time the match kicked off and I got rather emotional as he was carted off.

I'm sure a historian of the game like yourself can recall all you've seen.

jrp, agree. I would hardly describe him as a Lions legend. He'd at least have had to have won a series as a starter for that but two terms as first choice would be better.

Hell BOD's barely a Lions legend as he has no series wins despite 3 tours as first choice (granted one was very short lived).
