Reason for this is I'd like to avoid buying a separate video and digital camera and would prefer a digital that can also record video...my two options have come down to these two and I need someone that understands specs a little better to shed some light on which is better. Only $10 separates the two so that's not a factor.

One of the things I've noticed, besides the slighter better zoom and GPS on the Nikon is that the Sony (without GPS) has 3D picture capability whereas the Nikon doesn't.

Thoughts? I assume I'd probably use the 3D function more than the GPS one though...

I have the previous version of the Sony (HX55V) which I bought after much comparison with the Panasonic. It is a fantastic camera and the HD video is stunning. The one I have has the GPS but I never use it.

Can't give much advice about the Nikon i'm afraid.
