The tour to the outer edge of the civilised world will be a good test of where the Clan are in relation to the big boys of the comp. Will they fade as depth is tested and they move away from the frigid south of aotearoa or will the relentless drive to the finals continue?

Couldn't give a flying fuck to be fair as long as Top Gear and Red Tommo keep scoring points for my fantasy team its all good.

Still would like them to win.

Nice OP. Both teams will be desperate as hell to win this one. Clan gained tons of confidense after the Tin Ear slip up while the Sharks will be regrouped and fresh for this game.

They're always giving the Stormers a hard time about being the "DHL Stormers" saying they're not known or the park isn't known as "Mr. Price..." - plain as day on the right hand side of the stadium there: "MR PRICE kings park" - bastards!

Must say this is one of the anti traditional aspects of sponsorship that gets me a bit agitated. If a stadium has been known as something for a few decades (I am sure that Kings Park has been around for at least that long - happy to be corrected) then it should be known by that name. This new age stadium naming rights crap can, to be a little blunt, fuck right off :x

I shall call it Kings Park and Mr Price can blow me.

Not arguing the point because I agree with you. Just pointing out to the Sharkies that the shoe fits both feet. If they insist on "DHL Newlands" then it sure as hell is going to be "MR PRICE..."

Great pic Lacrobat. The lower left of the pic - Old Castle Corner (left of the main grandstand) - Umgheni End, brings back some wonderful memories for me when I was a kid. Used to collect discarded coke bottles on the top of the grass hill there to get some cash...

Nope, I don't get to go to any Rebels games where I can get on the beers.

When ABSA provided the sponsorship the ground was known as the Absa Stadium. No mention of King's Park.
When Mr Price got involved the name became "Mr Price King's Park".
The story goes that the main manne at Mr Price hails from Durban, hence the inclusion of "King's Park".
Or maybe it's just smart PR !

First game of rugby I ever went to with my Dad. My best mate's father played fullback for Natal that day. A draw as I remember.

Great looking stadium too.

Why the hell are games being played in South Africa in the afternoon, where the weather is apprantly fine, yet we have to suffer night games here in NZ when it's coming on to winter?

The heart says Highlanders to win this by 12 and under, but the head says a close loss. Sooner or later, the boys are going to hit the wall after all those close games, the travel and well, Steve Walsh. ;)
We probably shouldn't have won that Cheatahs game, and the mockers gods will be a little pissed off.

That is quite steep. The Forsyth Barr stadium here in Dunners is about that steep but I doubt it's anywhere near as high as that.
Fantastic views.

Watched a Super 12 game there from one of the corporate boxes. Great day out. Got a result and opened a few Saffa wallets by betting on a Chris Latham inspired Queensland team given a points start! Paid for my holiday

Then out to the carpark afterwards for the 'brai', some 'boerworst' and a few Castles! I'll give these fellas one thing, they celebrate a day at the footy better than anyone

For the first time in this campaign we don't seem to have a single injury to worry about.

If the lack of an extended squad of fit players, with depth in most (if not all) positions and plenty of competition for places is the reason for the Sharks’ patchy form in Super Rugby 2012 to date – a recent article on the Sharks Rugby website seems to suggest this very thing – then the good news is, we fans should expect things to go much more smoothly starting this weekend.

In fact, with the exception of Ross Skeate and Julian Redelinghuys (both out until June) and Alistair Hargreaves (who I doubt will play again anyway), the Sharks now have everybody else available for selection. The headache for the coaches now becomes who to leave out, rather than who to pick. For this week, at least, the surplus could work out in favour of the Sharks XV, since no eligibility restrictions apply to the quarter-final round of the Vodacom Cup; in other words, anyone who misses out on Sharks selection for the Highlanders game could play against the Bulls in the curtain-raiser. If the team should progress to the semi-final, however, any player who has played Super Rugby more than 3 times in 2012 will not be eligible for selection.

Beast Mtawarira’s expected return at loosehead should see Dale Chadwick drop out – if not all the way to the Sharks XV then probably to the bench, where he’ll no doubt fight with Wiehahn Herbst for a spot. The amazing Vodacom Cup form of Kyle Cooper should see him raise questions at least about the permutations at hooker, while all of Anton Bresler, Jandre Marais and Pieter-Steph du Toit will be in the running to partner Steven Sykes at lock.

It’s at loose forward, though, where the biggest headache will come, with Keegan Daniel, Marcell Coetzee, Willem Alberts, Ryan Kankowski, Jacques Botes and Jean Deysel all vying for at most 5, but probably only 4 spots in the match 22. With the coaches having acknowledged how vital it is to win all of the next 5 matches, one would fancy that continuity in selection will be crucial in terms of the forwards building synergy and momentum. In other words, with all the players rested and fit, we should expect the Sharks to now settle on their best forward combination and pick that same unit consistently.

Scrumhalf is one position where depth remains a concern, with nobody other than the young Cobus Reinach really pushing incumbent Charl McLeod, so it’s hard to see the Sharks opting for a halfback combination of anyone other than the latter and Pat Lambie. With Odwa Ndungane back to fitness, though, there are numerous permutations available amongst the rest of the back line positions, with Paul Jordaan in particular making a strong selection claim with his play in the Vodacom Cup. Lwazi Mvovo has been cleared to take his place on the left wing after a nasty hit against the Chiefs a fortnight ago, but right wing is up for grabs with any of Ndungane, incumbent Louis Ludik or JP Pietersen in the running. Should Pietersen move back to wing, Jordaan or Tim Whitehead could run at 13, with Meyer Bosman at 12 if the latter is preferred.

With Ludik no longer needed as a makeshift wing, it will be interesting to see whether he is picked at fullback in place of the strangely off-colour Riaan Viljoen. While Ludik has, in the past, been berated for a perceived lack of attacking threat, few can argue that his defensive play would be a cut above the error-strewn showings we’ve come to expect from former Griquas man Viljoen.

The ball, in summary, is back in the Sharks coaches’ court. Your injury problems are over; now to pick the best combination you can and show us how well they can play

We are already 10-12 points adrift of the leaders. If we lose this weekend then there's no hope for us. Personally I don't have much faith anymore.

With no injuries the gups should be able to mount a charge, if they can start defending that is. Go gups!

The Sharks supporters is pretty negative at the moment. They need you to help them get out of this mood. I'll tip them this weekend and hope they mince meat those Clan lot.

P9, W4, L5. No gameplan, no structure, poor defence and downright shite. You'd be pretty negative too.

You want me to help lift their spirits,

There is something seriously wrong at the gups, as beaver and the gup supporters have discussed in that 'what is wrong with gups' fred. I feel if they can tighten up their defence they will do a whole lot better though.

The positive posts you give them should lift them Boetie. Apart from the Stormers our S15 franchises defenses are weak as shite. Pretty sure Nienaber can make a few ponde in SA.

I just hope that reckless bugger Mvovo can keep his rock collection away from our boys heads.

Wonderful stadium pic in the OP. Should be a great game. Never write the Highlanders off, especially after last week's heroics. Just wonder how much they'll have left in the tank after that game. No Haskell either . . . not sure whether that'll favor the Sharks or the Highlanders, tbh.

Just wondering...............with Haskell out, if Hale T-Pole wasn't on the plane, maybe we will see Jarrod Hoeata on the flank, with Bekhuis and Retallick locking. I did think Hoeata played better last week, and a hard game with plenty of agro and pace maybe just what it takes to re-light Hoeata's fire! I quite like the vigour that Doug Tietjens brings to the table, but he is really looking too small for this level. In the backs, I think Jimmy Cowan is in plum form (not just because of his two tries) and should start, with Aaron Smith to come on and terrorise them with his pace late on. Piutau was brilliant last week and should replace the very average Popoali'i.

I would like to see: B Smith, Piutau, Ellison, Treeby, Gear, Delaney, Cowan, Manu, Thomson, Hoeata, Bekhuis, Retallick, King, Hore, and Mackintosh start, with Rutledge, Fia, , ANother, Tietjens, A Smith, C Noakes and K Baker on the bench.

I managed to watch the Sharks XV in the Vodacom Cup on Saturday, it returned my faith in Sharks rugby.

Great to see Beast, Kanko, Ndungane, Deysel, Hargreaves et al having a rumble.

It's a shame to see Chadwick dropped for this game, he's done a very good job for the Sharks and improved with every game.

Think we can pull this one through. The bye was at the right time with the loss against the Chiefs at home. Few players returning from injury.

BTW will be in Durbs the 14th July 2012, Cheetahs game. Locals do you think it will be safe to just pitch at the grounds for two tickets? I just don't know how the day will turn out when down there.

Havnet been a sold out in Durbs since the start of S10 back in 1996. They give tickets for free nowadays. One of these days you'll get your braai pack/dagga zol included. ;)
