Why is that, PessimisticJock? :o

I don't want to be contained at the 7's, I enjoy the freedom of moving to different areas. I've been told there's no pubs near by. Too much fucking around to get to it compared to MF

Temporary stands, brings capacity up to 15,000. Hopefully will make for a good atmosphere-that amount of people in Murrayfield always looked a bit sparse.

This.

I hope it comes back to MF after the Commonwealth Games as it's a bit of a joke hosting an IRB tournament in a fecking industrial estate.

But wiki says

Quote:
Today this is a much sought after conservation area, part of which lies in the fiercely sought after Jordanhill School catchment, and is popular with families seeking fine period houses with gardens close to the heart of the West End.

Are you suggesting this is sexed up?

It is in a residential area. But it's in Glasgow, which means it's shit to jrp

I didn't say it was shit - I said it's in a rubbish part of Glasgow if you are a rugby fan. One of the great parts of the MF IRB 7s is everything that goes on in the back pitches - 2 days of youth rugby festivals - loads of food and beer, space to wander about.

It's gone to a running track with temp stands in a city that cares not a fucking jot for the sport and all because the Scottish Govt threatened to withdraw the shitty funding they give the SRU if it wasn't moved to Glasgow.

Then again, not the most inspiring area - nice masonry shame about the shopfronts, hope there is another approach to the stadium...

I got the impression it was to get Glasgow prepared to host Commonwealth Games 7's. I've heard the residents in the area aren't too happy about it (or Warriors matches either).

I would imagine both reasons are linked

So with less than one day of training remaining before the tourney starts, preparations are going ahead full steam. All the teams have now arrived, with even England deigning to join us. From what I've seen of the teams:

Argentina are well impressed with the totty on display in the Glasgow area
Fiji look big and mean
Samoa spend most of their time either asleep or eating
The Aussies are a good bunch of lads
The Welsh are keeping a low profile but look fit
Zimbabwe are trying to nobble the opposition by taking out their transport
The Kiwis are sporting some impressive facial hair which changes colour regularly
And Scotland have been training so hard I've lost weight just standing watching them

With the exception of one south side venue, the training facilities have been well received, with even the notoriously hard to please New Zealand party quietly impressed by Scotstoun. There's been a lot of positive comment on the marketing that has been done, especially when compared with that of previous years.

I know that a positive post is a rarity on the bored and won't sit well with some members but as ticket sales approach sell-out there's a good vibe building about this tournament.

In other news, reports of boredies racing minibuses through Glasgow city centre last evening have not been confirmed (just in case anyone from Strathclyde Police reads this).

Pity they're not in our group. I think that lack of 20-20 vision could be exploited

I'd rather be in Samoa now than here in England with its shithouse weather :P

Reasonable summary Traveller, though you appear to have conveniently forgotten to mention who won the race!

As for strathclydes finest, you are only ever a handshake away from being sent on your way with no charge!

The Spanish squad (with no shirt numbers yet):

Pablo Feijóo (Cetransa El Salvador)
Matías Tudela (Ordizia)
Pedro Martín (Ordizia)
Ignacio Martín (Bera Bera)
Nicholas Marshall (Bera Bera)
Javier Canosa (CRC Madrid)
Facundo Lavino (CRC Madrid)
Carlos Blanco (Universidade de Vigo)
Ryan Leroux (Santboiana)
Javier Carrión (La Vila)
Marcos Poggi (La Vila)
César Sempere (Northampton Saints)

Two important absences from the team that finished second in the qualification tournament in HK: Martín Heredia is injured and Juan Cano has college exams.

Give it a fucking rest will you - Glasgow will barely be aware of the 7s - their obsession is elsewhere.

It's know nothing BTW - seeing as we are referring to you.

I'm forgetting you know the thought patterns of the nigh 600,000 you could class as residents. As compared to the Rugby loving edinbuggers who packed out the stadium every year......... oh, wait. No they didn't.

Well done jerpy, when caught talking out your arse again, revert to pedantry to try and save face.

Are you offering?

Kovana. I agree there's not a great deal of room for expansion but it should be a much more intimate atmosphere in the ground. I've been on the pitch and it's all right in there.

Hoho!

I suppose to the border bothy dweller the houses around Scotstoun must look enormous. That doesn't make them factories. And Scotstoun is flat, but you clearly haven't been there recently - if ever.

Damn right!!

It has to be said though that Frillage deserves some kind of award for best LO. Either he informed the Argentine management of the importance of being in the hotel reception at that time or it was just a crazy coincidence that they happened to turn up.
