Explain why. The only major difference I see between Apartheid and the way the rest of the countries of the world treats its underclass is that in South Africa they didn't have the vote either - for obvious reasons. But in terms of creating a poor underclass, often divided along racial lines, where people have piss poor access to the same levels of education, opportunity, basic human rights, freedom and prosperity, 'Apartheid' might as well still exist just about everywhere. Stop kidding yourself.

Same as Nipper, :uhoh: . Maybe I should re-think my posting style.

Seriously though, I enjoy most people's opinions on rugby. It ispartly why I am here, to see what other people think about the game. I learn more from some than others.

I was talking in terms of how your fellow Stormers fans seem to get wound up by your perceived negativity. Nipper on the other hand trolls, and he does it very well. He winds up so many people.

To get this thread back on a positive vibe, I'll re-post my faves

My favourite Kiwis...

Guy Smiley - all round nice guy, very funny, a bit of a smart arse (which I like) and a Saders fan. Good value in every way.
the axe - good for rugby chat these days, I think he's actually improved as a poster on the new bored, seems to start lots of rugby based chat.
UncleFB - good for some banter. We disagree a lot of the time (and sometimes argue even when we agree on something) but always manage to maintain a sound degree of civility that one or two other posters could learn from in relation to their online arguments.
naki - Very funny, intelligent poster. Great for both rugby and non-rugby chat. If you can overlook his morbid obesity he's a very valuable poster to the SH dayshift.
Enzedder - Wise, elder statesman of the forum and an all round nice guy. He generally has a positive, moderating effect on the forum.
Eugenuis - Smart, knowledgeable poster especially relating to Canterbury rugby. A very funny posters and effective wind up merchant whose tongue in cheek posting style never fails to incite reaction.
Grizz Wylie - Probably the best rugby poster from NZ, though his output is low.
PFM - Has a contrary view to me on most things, but a good Crusaders man who like the_axe starts lots of excellent rugby threads these days.
Kiwias - Another wise, elder statesman of the forum who dispenses sage advice and is good for an anecdote or two. Seems to have a photographic memory and offers interesting historical perspectives and insights into historical games and events.
Taranaki Snapper - Great for interesting threads which cover a range of topics.
True Blue - knowledgable rugby poster who generally contributes well to NZ centric rugby chat.

There are others I have overlooked, like Captain Hurricane, Kiwi dutchie

Not convinced by that - hardly unknown for posters to play up to the whole game around multis, an 'admission' doesn't count for much in my book.

Anyway, if REFRY is a product of somebody's fevered imagination and desire to smear the unemployed, my hat's off to him as he is a very well fleshed-out character of some many years' standing. What a lot of work it must be to keep that going.

Short of the poster involved waving a flag (red presumably) he couldn't make it more obvious, even on this thread.

I don't know why c69 chooses to do this weird implying that refry is his multi, attention I suppose but it isn't the case.

Refry may be on the troll at times but I have seen evidence from his personal email account that a lot of what he says is true (scans of doctors notes, letterheaded appointment letters, references). If c69 went to all that trouble, and I don't believe for a second he did, he is truly deranged.

How could they have been? :?

Not only that, but amongst those with voting rights, the Nats did not have the overwhelming majority that many people often think they did. It is my understanding that they came to power with only 52% of the vote.

Seems like a decent majority. In Australia, a 52% majority means the sitting govt would have a healthy majority in parliament.

Fair enough - you are fortunate enough to live in a multi-party democracy. I've not had that luxury so my view is a little skewed.

I have also been shortsighted in my assumption that the remaining 48% were anti-apartheid, which might not necessarily have been the case. There might have been parties even more to the right than the Nats that also gained some votes and supported apartheid policies.

Requires further research methinks.

I realise Apartheid put all these horrible segregation laws and oppression on the books, which most other countries never did or did away with them much earlier, but it's not like racism and the battle between rich and poor, frequently drawn across colour lines, doesn't still go on all over the place. I've lived in the UK, so don't even pretend to tell me racism isn't still alive and well there. There's more unhappy muslims or blacks or Pakistanis than you can shake a pointed stick at. Racism debates crop up all the time in Australia and NZ as well. But then they killed most of their problem a long time ago, so it can mostly be ignored.

There's not all that big a difference between institutionalised racism and just good old-fashioned racism, is what I'm saying. Surely this is not such a hard point to understand. Or do you really think your country has licked the whole racism thing?

I'm off now, but seeing as though you are so comfortable in your intellectual superiority I know there will be an incredibly intelligent reply awaiting me in the morning, when I'll most likely realise that you really are super, super smart. Or maybe it'll be like all the other times I've argued with you when your arrogance and smug sense of superiority came off as faintly laughable and entirely unearned.
